RYA Start Yachting
The RYA Start Yachting course is aimed at anyone who has never sailed before and would like to spend a weekend learning the ropes. The course is designed to give you a taste of yachting and can reduce the length of time required to complete the RYA Competent Crew course.
RYA Start Yachting Course Content
Experience living on a yacht and visit different ports each night. Learn the fundamentals of handling a boat under sail and under engine. Learn to handle sails, tie knots, and become a useful member of crew.
Join the boat at our base in Hamble on Friday evening meet your instructor and crew. Your course will start on Saturday morning, returning Sunday afternoon. Spend a weekend sailing in the sheltered waters of the Solent.
The RYA Competent Crew Skills is a useful book both during the course and as an aide memoire after your course, and can be purchased for £10 please let us know when you are booking. We also have a section on sail handling that contains some worksheets you might find useful.
After your courseYou will have gained practical skills to help you become a useful crew member, gaining a recognised certificate.

Food while sailing and mooring fees are included.
Included on courseRYA accredited instructor, accommodation on board, gas, diesel, breakfast and lunch each day, 1 evening meal, and RYA log book.
To enable you to fully enjoy the course, you will require wet weather gear; a sleeping bag and pillow will also be required. Refer to our comprehensive kit list.
