RYA Day Skipper Tidal Conversion
If you have obtained your RYA Day Skipper certificate in the Mediterranean or the Baltic Sea then it is likely to be a ‘non-tidal’ certificate. The conversion to a tidal certificate is required if you wish to charter a boat in tidal waters, and for those wishing to progress to RYA YachtMaster it is essential that 50% of the required mileage is obtained in a tidal area.
The RYA Day Skipper Tidal Conversion course is suitable for holders of the RYA Day Skipper practical non-tidal certificate.
RYA Day Skipper Tidal Conversion Course Content
This weekend course will concentrate on teaching the skills needed to sail and manoeuvre a yacht in a tidal area in the sheltered waters of the Solent.
This will include
- Close quarters handling under engine
- Navigation and pilotage using tidal calculations
- Using tidal heights and tidal streams
- Working out course to steer to allow for tidal stream, leeway and drift
Boat handling in strong tides can be challenging. By attending a RYA Day Skipper tidal conversion course you will learn how to use the tide to your best advantage. Explore harbours and creeks only accessible at certain times of tide and learn how to best use the tide when planning a passage.
Join the boat on Friday evening and meet your instructor and crew, start your course on Saturday morning, returning Sunday afternoon.
