RYA Specialist Courses

RYA Specialist Courses complement our theory and practical courses. The courses provide essential skills for safe sailing; we recommend the courses for all sailors of all abilities. The courses take place over one day or two evenings, they will develop your skills and provide peace of mind for a more enjoyable time on the water.

RYA VHF Radio Course

The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. This course will teach you how to use a DSC VHF radio and how to send a MAYDAY, a call for assistance and for medical advice – basic essentials for all crew. It is recommended for anyone wishing to complete the RYA Day Skipper qualification or those looking to compete in offshore racing.

RYA First Aid

In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in remote locations. This one day course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers. Learn key first aid skills needed aboard a boat, including CPR, the dangers of hypothermia and cold shock and how to treat cuts and broken bones.

RYA/ISAF Offshore Safety

The RYA/ISAF Offshore Safety Course provides training for recreational and racing skippers and crew who encounter rough weather and problems at sea. It combines two one day courses, the RYA Sea Survival and the ISAF Offshore Safety course.  The certificate awarded conforms with the eligibility requirements of section 6.01 of the ISAF Special Regulations for category 0, 1 and some category 2 offshore races.
