SagaHanse 531 - Start Round Britain and Ireland Race 2014 - Winner Class 1

Round Ireland Race 2016

The Round Ireland Race 2016 is Ireland’s premier offshore sailing race and is held every two years by Wicklow Sailing Club in association with the Royal Ocean Racing Club.

The 704 nautical mile race was first held in 1980 and still retains the original course- “leave Ireland and all its islands excluding Rockall to starboard.”

The warm greeting and round the clock bar service when returning to Wicklow brings competitors back to the race year after year.

Round Ireland 2016

Equinox Sailing have put together a comprehensive race package including training, Sea Survival/Offshore safety courses and qualifying races in preparation for the Round Ireland Race 2016. We will be using SAGA a Hanse 531 that we used for the Round Britain and Ireland Race 2014, winning class 1.

Saga is a fast cruiser/racer with a touch of luxury and a very capable when the wind increases. Please view our blog on the Round Britain and Ireland race for more details on our race.

The crew must compete in a minimum of 300 nm offshore racing prior to the Round Ireland Race 2016. We will be competing in 2 RORC races prior to the Round Ireland Race allowing everyone to gain the required mileage. The Round Ireland Race is not a race for beginners, but with the training and qualifying races included in our package you will have the experience necessary not only to compete in this classic offshore race but to excel in it.

Training and qualifying will take place on the South Coast of England, with the boat being delivered to Greystones ahead of the Round Ireland race 2016. There will be an opportunity to join the boat on the delivery trips.  The crew will join the boat in Greystones a couple of days ahead of the race to prep and sail the boat the 10 miles to Wicklow for the start of the race, Greystones has good transport links to Dublin.
