With our London-based RYA Theory courses finishing this weekend and Christmas only a few weeks away its time to look at some gift ideas for sailors of all levels.
1 . Waterproof Bag
A waterproof bag will keep you and all your gear nice and dry even on the wettest of boats as well as ensuring if you put your bag down on a wet pontoon everything remains dry. Space is limited on most boats so consider a soft bag around 50-60 litres which should be plenty of space for weekends away.
- Life jacket
It’s becoming less common to see people not wearing a life jacket and as the RNLI say they are useless unless worn. There is a huge range with a variety of features, but consider one which has automatic inflation, a light, splash guard as well as crotch or thigh straps.
- Head Torch
A head torch will always be a useful item to take sailing. Not only for use sailing at night but for finding your kit in your sailing bag as well. Something with a red filter will stop you losing your night vision and blinding your crew.
- Water bottle
With the world’s oceans full of plastic, more and more people are turning to reusable water bottles when onboard. Klean Kanteen do a huge range of stainless steel bottles in a variety of sizes with sports caps.
- RYA Theory Course
Although sailing is a practical past time, there are something’s that can best be learnt in a classroom, particularly in the winter. The RYA offer three theory courses:
