RYA courses cover the skills required to be an active crew member or skipper, but skills can become routine in familiar waters.  Mile builders are a great way for sailors of all experiences to gain valuable experience in unfamiliar waters while sailing longer distances, being in a watch system and sailing at night- building on previous skills and learning new ones.
All our mile builders will be run by an experienced RYA Instructor/skipper, so you will have the opportunity to learn while you sail, as well as the opportunity to skipper passages of over 60 miles.  We have a number of extended and weekend mile builders planned for 2014.

Wales Mile Builder
This is a non-stop passage from Hamble to Pwllheli and is a good opportunity to gain experience sailing for extended periods of time.  The trip will take approximately 4 days so previous experience of sailing at night and in a watch system is an advantage but not necessary.  This is a one-way trip but there are good transport links in Pwllheli, by bus or train.

Scotland Mile Builder

This is a passage from Oban to Hamble with a stop-over in Holyhead and is a good opportunity to gain experience sailing for extended periods of time.  The trip will take approximately 7 days so previous experience of sailing at night and in a watch system is an advantage but not necessary.  This is a one-way trip but there are good transport links to Oban, by plane, bus or train.
Dates – 21st June – 27th June 2014 – Costs – £300 per person
Ireland Mile Builder

The Fastnet Race is a 620 mile non-stop race starting in Cowes and finishing in Plymouth.  Our Mile Builder will follow the same route as the Fastnet Race but at a more leisurely pace.  With stopovers in Plymouth, Kinsale, Schull, Cork and Falmouth you will experience overnight passages with the opportunity to catch up on some sleep and enjoy the local cuisine and hospitality.

You can join the boat for the whole trip or just half as there is a changeover possible in Schull which is just a short bus ride from Cork with daily flights to London.

Our mile builder events are an ideal opportunity for RYA Day Skippers to gain experience and work towards their RYA Coastal Skipper or their RYA Yachtmaster.
