Ways to get more sailing experience

Racing
Yacht or dinghy racing can be a great way to improve your skills and to put current skills into practice. We race regularly so if you’re interested visit our ‘Yacht Racing’ page for more details about getting started.

Join a sailing club
Find a local club and get involved, boats owners are always looking for enthusiastic crew and many clubs are looking for Skippers to become part of club events. Dinghy sailing is a great way to improve your sailing skills as there are no instruments onboard and a dinghy sailor is required to rely on their senses –this is excellent practice and a good skill to have on a larger boat.

Mile builders
It can be difficult to gain experience skippering outside your comfort zone.  Mile builders offer the chance to skipper while having an experienced instructor onboard.

Thought about doing the Fastnet Race but prefer to cruise?

Have a look at our Fastnet Rally. We are planning a 2 week cruise following the Fastnet course, but intend to stop along the way.  There will be plenty of opportunities to skipper 60+ mile passages.
